Seasons For Giving
We’ve all heard the phrase “‘Tis the season” before. We are bombarded by the concept endlessly throughout the month of December, but what does it mean? ‘Tis the season for giving, ’tis the season for sharing, ’tis the season for family time and love and joy but mostly, ’tis the season to be giving. December and Christmas time are forever linked to these wonderful feelings and justifiably so.
But let me tell you about a martial artist point of view; what about August? What about September and March and any other time of the year? Why does THIS have to be the season for giving? Why does there only have to be ONE season for giving? As a martial artist I promote to my students that there is no such thing as a “season” for giving because we should be charitable year round. Some people aren’t just needy at Christmas time, some people live in poverty year round. We don’t just have family to love in December, we have them all the time and we should demonstrate how much we care EVERY day.
If December 25th is the day that we should all celebrate peace, harmony and good will towards all, then as a martial artist it’s December 25th year round!
No matter what your beliefs are may peace be with you always!
