THE PROGRAM
Training in a classical method of karate (meaning empty hand) is a traditional practice that prepares its students for the physical, mental, and spiritual challenges of modern life. Our system of hard/soft style karate is especially suited to a practitioner seeking a balanced activity that emphasizes robust physical conditioning as well as cultivating inner vitality.
Our curriculum typically includes four main elements which a student can expect regular training in:
Basics (Kihon)
The foundational techniques of our martial art, including stances, blocks, strikes, throws, and more. Equipment for striking practice such as paddles, bags, and punching mitts is also used.
Self-Defense/Sparring (Kumite)
The training of personal protection, including partnered drills designed to develop confident responses to immediate threats.
Forms (Kata)
The artistic essence of karate practice, kata are dynamic, historical patterns made to increase technical coordination, but are also an outward expression of inner determination.
Conditioning (Hojo undo)
The supplemental, physical conditioning to develop a strong, capable karate body. Exercise includes callisthenics, plyometrics, isometrics, cardio, and more.
